PRELUDE
-------

The aliens home world, Antirra was dying. Their species was coming to
end due in part to the feudal nature of the race but mostly due to
the depletion of new blood to their GENEPOOL. The Antirran technology
at that time was where we will be in another 80-90 years...nearly
immortal in a decadent society of high tech slavery. A few of the
more farsighted elders decided to find a solution. Genetically
altered Antirran chromosome would be artificially produced and place
in a panspermical state. That is, sent to the far reaches of space
to be followed by a craft carrying one, dormant, Antirran, female.
With the onboard biocomputer ticking away the altered genes began a
"dance of life". By the time a suitable system was found the soup was
ready. Both craft landed on the planet that was chosen for it's
stability, resources, and a very good chance of supporting the life
that would soon follow.

The Antirran began the artificial insemination process and after the
typical 9 month gestation period a new Antirran was born. With
remarkable differences to the mother! The basic structure was the
same, however, this child was hairless and scaleless save for the tuft
of fuzz at the top of his head. The Antirran host mother's orders were
specific and so the process was repeated until a fair sized civilization
was created from several totally differing offspring but from the same
mother. This took place on nearly 200 worlds and on each of those worlds
the race flourished.

Meanwhile, back on Antirra, much had changed. An alternate approach
had been taken to ensure the races longevity. The male of the species
were placed in time stasis chambers where they would oversee the longer
lived females and their new ability to lay eggs! As the eggs were
hatched, the male offspring would begin a "linking of minds" with the
immortal, male, elders while the female offspring were destined to
follow in their "mother's" footsteps. This continued for a century
and a half, but the original problem began to show its nasty head.
There was but one thing left to do. Find the 200 worlds where the
"children of Antirra" had been placed and "reclaim" them. Nearly all
of Antirra was dead when the Overlords, for that is what the immortal
males now called themselves, received word of first contact with the
new race of Antirrans. The path was chosen and the children of Antirra
were returned to their home world....in chains! The men were placed in
work camps to labor until they were old enough to be consumed by the
Elder Antirrans; devoured by fangs and ripped asunder by claws. The
females were placed into two categories. One was a breeder for the
hatchlings by a strange process of osmosis. Egg cases were brimmed with
new Antirran hatchlings; quite similar to their Elder Antirran
guardians. The only new "humans" that were produced were done so in
a stockyard environment. Thus only to ensure a constant new supply of
life to the GENEPOOL. The second role of the stronger female "human"
was to be a receiver/sender for the Overlords. In this position, the
female would live forever as well but at a cost. They would be
constantly using their telepathic ability to touch Elder Antirran
minds at great distances. Over centuries, this power grew to Galactic
proportions. Soon the farthest planet from Antirra was located and to
the Overlord's surprise was inhabited by a race of new Antirrans! A
planet was missed in the search, it must be reclaimed!

Lightships were sent to the world in question. Upon arrival the Elder
Antirrans were stunned to see monuments erected in their likeness.
They were welcomed as GODS. Mars was a beautiful place and was named
after the "children's" mother. Her visage can still be seen in the
sands of Mars today.....

THE STORY
------------

Duke has defeated the alien invasion force...that's GOOD! What Duke
doesn't know is that the force he defeated was the first wave and
that the real armada is forming around the alien home world at this
very moment.........that's BAD!

Episode one will deal with the remnants of the alien war machine that
has retreated to extremely remote parts of the Earth. From steaming,
jungle fortresses to cold, Antarctic, weigh stations; the aliens are
still present. Not only are they still inhabiting small pockets of
our globe, but they are working on a device to access their home world
DIRECTLY!

The device is a stargate known as the Tanheuser Gate, named after Dr.
Fredrick Tanheuser who was an alien captive until he was inadvertently
killed in an Earth Defense Force raid. His plans and calculations
remained intact, however and with the aliens advanced technology in
power conversion, it appears that they intend to complete the work
that Tanheuser had begun. At the end of episode one, Duke finds the
last of the aliens "earthbound" installations and what could very
well be the link and access to the "gate" itself.

Episode two begins with Duke entering a smaller "daughter" gate which
brings him out into a "time sphere" where aliens have placed a foreward
observation post as well as an uplink transmitter to the Mars orbiting
stargate facility. This facility houses the Tanheuser Gate, but can only
be accessed via five of Mars' surface installations that have existed
since the dawn of man! Thus begins a serious twist to the plot. Duke
must not only focus on the alien invasion force, but he must face the
fact that aliens had created the human race long ago in the bowels of
their first, dark, colony ships. Now Duke is really pissed and wants
more than ever to destroy this species of alien. It appears that the
men were created as a labor force and food supply while the females of
our species were created to host the larvae of the alien brood as well
as serving as channelers for the Hive's psychic energy. The more
females, the more the transmission radius of the Overlord Council.
This was the downfall of the first assault on Earth. There were too
many breeders and not enough channelers. Definitely NOT a pretty
picture.

So, from the ancient architectural wonders of a subterranean Mars, Duke
finds his way to the Mars Orbiting Facility, home of the alien
constructed Tanheuser Gate. He arrives there only to find that he is too
late and that the only way to thwart the alien armada is to go to their
home world and pay a visit. He steps through the gate and onto......

Episode three the alien home world! Duke must find the central
"think-tank" for the alien race. By destroying this council of
Overlords, all transmitted data from the Overlord Hive will terminate
and the entire invading armada will be depleted of energy, action, and
thought. What's left of the E.D.F could then come in and mop up.

*Episode/Level Summary*

EPISODE ONE They Live!
----------------------

Level: 1 - Duke's Domain-Downtown L.A.
Author: Shane Paluski

The steady downpour of acid rain has subsided. Cool concrete and damp asphalt smells drift up from the streets to fill your senses and remind you that life after the aliens is not so different anyhow. These thoughts pass through your head as you make your way to the seedy night spot called "The Snake Pit" ; a second home of sorts for you. Something beside the down draft from the overhead addtech blimp ruffles the hair on your neck and brings back, fleetingly, the memories of your war against the aliens. The sting to your right shoulder shocks you into realization that in fact you are being targeted. From the smoldering red of the optical sensors down to the offworld steel of the creatures gauntlets it would appear that the war you had thought you won was just beginning . . . From the city streets to the lower sewer system, Duke must make his way to the entrance of a secret, underground, research center. A center where, not only the aliens have taken refuge, but where they intend on keeping it FULLY functional! But why? Enter the office of Dr. Frederick Tanheuser and find out the truth........Dark doorway finishes the level. Sign above desk to left of doorway is covered with blood that has been used to write "They Live!" . . .

Level: 2 - Undercity Research Center
Author: Jeff Heath

Through the door lies the dark and foreboding sublevel of the facility.
Emergency lighting has been activated but most areas appear to have poor
lighting at best. It is here that Duke realizes the research of Dr.
Tanheuser has not gone unnoticed and, in fact, has produced, ala alien
know-how, a prototype of a small Tanheuser Gate. The gate is in the
facility but the security cam doesn't talk . . . have fun finding it.
In your meanderings to locate this gate you stumble upon the new
Predator who's sole purpose is to make your life exceedingly difficult
. . . as in DEAD. They have been apparently produced by the aliens and
are being dispersed via the GATE to various points of the globe. Now it
is imperative that you find the gate and take it wherever it leads. The
level ends with Duke running into the gate and . . .

Level: 3 - Aztech
Author: Nick Parde

gate.

Level: 4 - Yukon Duke

The Yukon! Duke's old stomping grounds...looks like things have changed
a bit..Doc Savage where are ya when we need you! With a little luck
though Duke will make it up through the ravine and into a world o' sh*t!

In a brief moment all that was the Antarctica One sub station was no
more... Personel and visitors all had succumed to the alien horde.

In this icy retreat there is nothing that can help you.

The distant humming of an atomic, turbine , engine is your only clue to
a hidden salvation.... The sub awaits.....

Level: 6 - Subarctica
Author: Paul "Talon" Jury

The sub...the hulking metal fish that had saved you in Antarctica has
crashed. What could you expect with a faulty auto-pilot? Unfortunately
the place of it's impact was only miles from the place of your
departure... Somehow you need to get home...or...anywhere but here.
Welcome to the dimensional nexus of the Antirran Foreward Observation
Post.... Heat up a little and party with the natives..

EPISODE TWO Tourist Trap
------------------------

Level: 1 - Bermuda Triangle
Author: Tyler Matthews And Paul "Talon" Jury

The Devils Triangle....GREAT!.....as if Duke wasn't lost already. Here
the weird gets a little weirder. From the lengths taken to conceal
their reduced invasion force it is no surprise that the aliens have
found . . .

Level: 2 - Himilayan Hell
Author: Jonathan "Lizard King" Cacy

Mt. Everest . . . brrrrrrr! Sucks to be wet! Work your way down the
deadly slopes of Everest and maybe stumble upon...ohhhh....Shangri La!
Yep....they got that spot too...SOB's! Ya well...clear it and take the
gate to . . .

Level: 3 - Lower Planes
Author: Ryan Isenberg

Long ago before there were advanced means of security the Overlords
required a "back door" of sorts. A means of escape if there would ever
come a need. Enter the interdimensional plane of existence and find
the way into.....

Level: 4 - Final Entry - Earth Uplink
Author: Tyler Matthews

It is from here that all commerce between the Earth and Mars takes

trip to the Martian surface colonies. End of this level will be aboard
an inbound Shuttle to the surface. Shuttle design is the upright rocket
that can be seen on launch pad in

Level: 5 - Welcome Mat
Author: Paul "Talon" Jury

EPISODE THREE Red Planet Blues
------------------------------

Level: 1 - HOSPITALity
Author: Demian "Wolfgang" Holmberg & Preston "Sluggboy" Packard

. . He experiences the full meaning of HOSPITAL . . . ity . . :) The lava churned cavern complexes of an ancient Mars. . . Were they really here long before man?

Level: 2 - Martian Red Light District
Author: Jon "Lizard King" Cacy

Level: 3 - Ancients: Halls of Man
Author: Matt "MattCake" Harris

Within this endless cycle even the ancient technologies that brought
US here are still quite active. Old ,martian, marbled, plazas frome
what once was a thriving metroplolis dedicated to the production of
mankind. Here it was that man first began and later had journeyed to
EARTH II otherwise known as TERRA.

Traps and mazes are just a few of the hardships of this area. Watch
your back.

Level: 4 - DNA Strand
Author: Cho-Yan Wong

With their tenacious nature the Antirran's created the "seed". To do
so required a facillity to control all of that which would come.
With this in mind the vast complex before you was created. It is here
that mans future would be written....

Level: 5 - Star Chamber
Author: Cho-Yan Wong

How we became is no longer a factor as is evident from all Duke has
seen but this, the final windfall of the humans on Mars has left more
questions than answers and beyond all hope there lies a greater nemesis
in this GALACTIC story. Here is the FRONT DOOR to the GATE!

Level: 6 - Tanheuser Gate
Author: Aaron Barber

There; in the distant starfield is a bright, beckoning beacon. A
portent of massive technology in an otherwise void pocket of darkness.
It is here that the Antirran's will emerge with their vast armada to
finally reclaim their own.

EPISODE FOUR - Taken' Em' Down
-------------------------------

Level: 1 - Wilderness Reciever Facility
Author: Aaron Barber

Through the crimson darkness and lava flows that are inherent below
this living planet, Mars gives up all of it's ancient secrets and Duke
find's that all we are or ever were can be linked to the alien's distant
past. When we looked to the stars we WERE looking HOME...............

Level: 2 - Into The City
Author: Crista Forest

There are those who believe that the gates to any city would show
hospitality and warmth to the weary traveler. These gates are not as
appealing in their construction all that was thought of was
fortification and elimination. Although the Antirran's did enjoy
their architecture it was elaborate as well as efficient.

Level: 3 - Secured Pleasures
Author: Nick Parde

Within these dens of humid darkness lie the seeds of a future yet to
come. A future that CAN NOT happen. If it would there would no longer
be a need for ANY humans at all.

Level: 4 - The Hive
Author: Ryan Isenberg

In the vast, dome laced, subterranean passages are THE HIVES. The
very place where all of Duke's foes are created and live. Poorly lit
corridors lead to unknown vistas and the stranger technologies of the
Antirran culture.

Level: 5 - Drone Chambers
Author: Crista Forest

Something brushes past you...or the air, that was so still, is now
stirring. Was that door open before? Enter the Drone Chambers. A
place where all that is the Antirran race is produced... Step lightly
as one false move could be your last.

Level: 6 - Overlords
Author: Matthew Harris

Vast, towering, cathedral of darkness. Cryogenically sealed compartments
that hold the Elder Antirrans, the OVERLORDS. You now realise the
implications of where you are. You see the dark faces of those who would
destroy and reclaim. Look into their lifeless eyes and KNOW that they
are AWARE!
